AE Halfway Point Log

Effects - glow fast blur
masks
blending modes

So far it's going quite well, i'm using just a few simple techniques.

Throughout the video i apply the effects 'Glow' and 'Fast Blur' to hard-edged elements (such as my stem and leaves) to soften it all up. Near the beginning, the stem slowly emerges from the seed, fir this i used simple mask expansion with feathered edges.

For the stem growing, I just key-framed the position of everything to be miving downwards rapidly all the time, matching the images up at each end in order to loop it, occasionally dropping a random leaf or flower on top of the pasted ones.

Below you can see my actual key-framing.
(Opacity & Position)

Throughout the video i have used blending options on layers to mix things together. At times this is very effective, and the academy countdown works very nicely with this functionality, below there is a grab from a clip with the countdown over it.

After thinking out a few different ways to do the tree, i went for an easier option, finding a decent picture of a tree, then bringing it into photoshop, inverting it and editing appropriately so that the tree itself was white and all else was black. This meant that when the 'Overlay' Blending mode was applied to it the tree itself became invisible while the rest of the image stayed black, allowing me to easily mix it over a really vibrant explosion for 'Tron'.

All these techniques have been used a LOT. I just didn't want to paste every example in here, i'd be here all night. Though the techniques are simple, the process is extensive because i want to achieve a really hectic, dramatic but well timed effect with this video. I'll show the entire map of keyframes when it's done.
